Why Is My Camera Mirrored? Test and Flip Your Webcam
If your camera looks mirrored, your video preview is probably being flipped horizontally so it behaves like a familiar bathroom mirror. That makes positioning yourself intuitive, but text, logos, and objects with a left or right side appear reversed. An online mirror camera lets you compare both orientations before a call, recording, photo, or presentation.
Why Webcam Apps Mirror the Preview
People are accustomed to seeing their reflection move in the same direction they do. A mirrored self-view follows that expectation: raise your right hand and the person on screen appears to raise the hand on the same side. An unmirrored feed shows the camera's perspective instead, which can feel backwards while you are adjusting your hair, lighting, or framing.
Do Other People See Me Mirrored?
Usually, no. Many video-call apps mirror only your local self-view and send an unmirrored feed to other participants. However, behavior differs by app, camera driver, virtual-camera software, and recording setting. The simplest test is to hold up a page with readable text or capture a short test recording. If the saved result reads normally, only your preview was mirrored.

Mirrored Versus Inverted Camera
These terms are often mixed together, but they describe different effects. A mirrored camera swaps the left and right sides of the image. An inverted-color filter changes each color to its opposite value. If text appears backward, change the mirror setting. If colors look like a photo negative, remove the invert filter instead.
How to Fix a Backwards Webcam
- Look for a setting named Mirror my video, Flip horizontally, or Self view in the calling or recording app.
- Check whether the preview, the recorded file, and the remote participant view behave differently before changing camera drivers.
- Disable mirroring when text, product labels, demonstrations, or directional movements need to be readable.
- Keep mirroring enabled when you are using the camera as a grooming or positioning mirror and the final orientation does not matter.
- Close other apps that are using the webcam if the browser says the device is busy or unreadable.
Why the Online Mirror Camera Is Not Working
First confirm that the page is using HTTPS and that the browser has camera permission. If no camera appears, connect or enable the device. If another app already controls it, close that app and try again. You can also switch browsers or check operating-system privacy settings when a previous denial prevents the browser from asking again.
