Count a date range with explicit endpoint choices

SimplyUtils counts calendar days between two dates and optionally displays a weekday count. Inclusive Mode adds the later calendar date. The page also shows weeks rounded to one decimal, calendar-day hour and second equivalents, and a years/months/days breakdown. Results update when you change either date or the inclusion setting.

Which dates are counted?

The tool first orders the dates from earlier to later. By default it includes the earlier date and excludes the later date. Inclusive Mode includes both. The same date entered twice gives zero with the default setting, or one with Inclusive Mode.

If Start Date is later than End Date, totals are negated after counting the same sorted interval. For example, reversing March 8-March 11 gives -3 days and -1 weekday by default, or -4 days and -2 weekdays with Inclusive Mode.

Exclude Weekends reveals the weekday total without changing the calendar-day total or calendar breakdown. Saturdays and Sundays are excluded from that count. There is no country selector or public/custom holiday list; a weekday holiday still counts. The page has no swap or export control.

Read the calendar breakdown

The breakdown takes completed clipped year anniversaries, then clipped month anniversaries, then remaining days. For January 31-February 29 in 2024, that is one calendar month. It is not a conversion that assumes all months have 30 days. Inclusive Mode extends the counted interval by one day before computing the breakdown.

Weeks are days divided by seven and rounded to one decimal. Hours are days multiplied by 24; seconds are days multiplied by 86,400. These are calendar-day equivalents and do not measure elapsed clock time across daylight-saving changes.

Limits, reset and privacy

Enter valid Gregorian dates in years 0001-9999. Missing or invalid dates remove the result and show an explanation. Reset Dates selects your device's local today and turns both toggles off. The arithmetic uses the date labels independently of the browser's time zone and counts complete weeks without allocating every date in a long range.

Create an owned attendance-range record

Use a fictional workshop running from Friday 8 March 2024 to Monday 11 March 2024. With Inclusive Mode off, the calendar total is three days and the weekday total is one when Exclude Weekends is enabled. Turning Inclusive Mode on produces four calendar days and two weekdays. Record both settings with each result. Merely writing that a workshop lasts four days leaves its endpoint convention ambiguous. The example is an arithmetic acceptance fixture rather than a claim about a real event, public holiday schedule or the hours during which any participant actually attended.

Inspect what the weekend switch changes

The calendar-day figure remains visible when you reveal the weekday count. This makes it possible to distinguish four occupied calendar labels from two included Monday-through-Friday labels in the workshop exercise. The switch does not erase Saturday and Sunday from the calendar breakdown or apply a region-specific working week. If a venue is open on Saturday or a team works a different weekly pattern, the displayed weekday count is not its staffing requirement. Keep that business rule in a separate calculation instead of renaming the built-in weekday number as a verified number of payable, billable or operational days.

Check same-date and reversed boundaries

Enter Saturday 9 March 2024 in both date fields. Without inclusion the interval is zero; with inclusion it is one calendar day and zero weekdays. Then reverse the Friday-to-Monday workshop pair and confirm that the signed totals negate the same sorted interval. These examples distinguish an endpoint choice from a directional choice. They also reveal why a universal instruction to add one day can be misleading. Retain the original labels and settings if you need someone else to reproduce a result, since a screenshot showing only a negative number cannot establish how its boundary was counted.

Keep the breakdown and the total in context

The years, months and days component follows calendar anniversaries, while the primary total is an integer day count. One clipped month from January 31 can contain a different number of days from one month starting elsewhere. Inclusive Mode extends the counted interval before the breakdown is prepared, so a component can change along with the total. Do not convert the displayed month component into a fixed thirty-day unit and expect it to reproduce every calendar interval. Use the total for a day-based comparison and the documented calendar components for a calendar description, recording which representation your receiving workflow requires.

Troubleshoot a disagreement with another range counter

First compare the exact four-digit years and date labels, then check whether both systems include the earlier and later dates. Confirm whether a weekend filter changes the primary total or displays a separate number, and whether either system applies holidays. Finally distinguish date arithmetic from actual timestamp subtraction through daylight-saving changes. This calculator's date labels do not supply event start times or location rules. It does not create a booking, send reminders or export an audit file. Keep a separate source note for important planning decisions and verify any contractual or jurisdiction-specific interpretation with the appropriate authoritative process.
